Spring Racing: How to Have a Beauty WIN

blog

We all know the Spring Racing Carnival isn’t really about the ponies. It’s about having an excuse to parade about in those fine duds and fanciful hats you love to play dress-ups in, but can’t (always) get away with wearing to Coles Express, brunch or parent-teacher interviews.

That said, all the gadding about during the season can wear a body out, to the point that, come Cup Day, you’re accessorising your jaunty purple fascinator with a pale and patchy fizzog and the chipped remnants of your Derby Day nail varnish.

Ever here to help, for this reason we’re giving you our top tips for complementing your look and taking care of your skin with a minimum of fuss.

Tanning
DON’T: Get into the gambling zone and decide to do some last minute experimentation with sprays and lotions. Have a flutter at the track instead.

DO: Seek a tanning professional, or use a tanning mitt for even distribution if you’re a regular DIY tanner. Otherwise, if your pins are winter-white and still feeling a bit sun-shy, consider a fancy-pants pair of stockings from cool brands like Voodoo or Wolford.

Nails
DON’T: Go for a mad colour that looks fantastic with one outfit and clashes with everything else you own. Keep it classic and neutral.

DO: Treat yourself to a proper shellac file and polish to get up to fourteen days wear out of your nail colour.

Makeup
DON’T: Go overboard and put the carny into carnival. A natural base with mascara and a bright, bold lip is on trend yet simple to execute and maintain throughout the day.

DO: Use a primer to keep makeup from sliding off your face before you’re done having fun.

Take care to make sure moisturiser is 100% absorbed before using primer or foundation though, otherwise it will mix in and absorb unevenly.

Skin
DON’T: Go to bed in your makeup. We all know the temptation to give our skin less attention when we’ve given our liver a workout, but skin is an organ too and needs a bit of TLC. Cleanse and moisturise before bed to prevent dryness and breakouts – and save your pillowcases.

DO: Try an overnight mask to keep your face feeling fresh, hydrated and plumped. It takes very little effort and can be a skin saviour when you’re track side by day and tripping the light fantastic by night.

We recommend Sothys Hydra3 mask RRP $75.00

And most of all, DO giddy up and have a good time.
