The Bush is Back!

blog

It started with a few stray whispers over the last year or two. With a gasp, a nod, a rebellious smirk, the whispers grew thick with anecdotes and soon flourished into the full bloom of reality – it was true. The bush was back. Huzzah!

After a good decade of pressure to conform to a single standard of uniform baldness, we can only take this renaissance as a positive sign; we women are feeling freer to be the landscape designers of our own lady gardens.

We’re taking control of our feminine foliage – or letting it grow wild according to what suits us personally. We’re not tending our patch to match the rest in the neighbourhood. If one woman opts for a well-mown mound, she doesn’t shame the gal next door for cultivating her curly forest. Nor does the mistress of the intricate thicket give any grief to the lady over the back fence who prefers to just pull it all out at the roots.

As contradictory as it sounds, the individual is slowly becoming the determining factor in cultural standards of femininity.

As contradictory as it also sounds, this is a good thing for the beauty industry. The real beauty industry, that’s all about celebrating the unique splendour of every woman, and man, and enabling them to express their identity in the mode they choose, rather than undermining their confidence and turning trends into tyranny.

So embrace the diversity! Women are making a change – one pubic inch at a time.
